Dealing with an Algae bloom.
(continued)
Black Algae is
special case. Black algae once introduced, will root itself on
a surface of your pool. It appears as spots. Simply applying
proper levels of chlorine will not help. You must physically
scrape the surface off of each spot. Black Algae forms a cap
that protects it from the effects of chlorine. You must do
this repeatedly until any indication of the spot is gone. A
trick that was passed on to me is to use a 3” chlorine tablet
as a pumice stone to work the spot.

This trick will also work on some other stains.
I prefer to turn the pump off in the afternoon and let the
water stop circulating. Then I go in to work the spots, I try
to leave some residue from the tablet sitting on the spot.
Don’t let Black Algae go unchecked and allow it to spread, it
is serious and will cause permanent damage.
The best way to deal with Black
Algae is to prevent it. There are untold numbers of organisms
in the atmosphere that can land in your pool at anytime.
Always keep your sanitizer at proper levels. Get them before
they get you.
Thanks you for taking the time to
read this, I hope that it has helped.
